National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement



Offered by


Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India.



Objective of the Scheme


Encouragechildren who had shown exceptional achievement in any field includingacademics, arts, culture and sports etc



Nature of Awards


      Gold Medal - 1 (One)

      •A cash prize of Rs.20, 000/-

      •A Citation and certificates, and

      •A Gold Medal


      Silver Medals - 35 (Thirty five)

      •A cash prize of Rs.20, 000/-

      •A Citation and certificates, and

      •A Silver Medal for each awardee.



Target Group and categories


Children between the age of 4 to 15 yearswho have shown an exceptional in any field including academics, arts, culture and sports etc. are eligible for this award. One Gold Medal and35 silver Medals (one for each State/UT) are to be given annually



Important Dates


   • The last date for submission of nominations for each year is 31st July.

   •Date of achievementfannouncement of the award: November 14



Criteria for Selection


   •The child is to be selectedfor the Award should unusual talent and exceptional achievement in any fieldincluding academics, arts, culture and sports etc.


   •Age certificate (Date of birth) duly attested by a Gazetted Govt. office may be attached.


   •Tributes/traits, which are claimed to be possessed by the child extraordinary or exceptional, should bereported in the Press, or have been tested by experts in the field. It should also be possible to subject the claimto an objective test.




Selection Process


A National Selection Committee out of the cases recommended by various bodies will make the selection

The National Selection Committee will consist of the following persons:

Minister of State I/C in the M/O of Women& Child Development
Secretary, WCD
Secretary or his nominee in the M/o Social Justice & Empowerment
Secretary or his nominee in the Dept. of Education
Secretary or his nominee in the Dept. of Culture
Secretary of his nominee in the M/O
Jt. Secretary (CW), M/O WCD
Dy. Secretary (CW), M/O WCD



Process of Execution


The application should be recommended by recommended byState/U.T Deptts., any Deptt. of Govt. of India/District Authority, LocalSelf Govt. (Panchayat, Zila Parishad, Municipal Corporation etc.). Experts inthe field, Member of Parliament, Member of Legislative Assemblies/ LegislativeCouncils and reputed Voluntary Organizations.
